HaRav HaGaon R’ Avraham Yosef Visits Tashbar

On Rosh Chodesh Tammuz, Tashbar Sephardic Yeshiva Ketana was honored to welcome the Chief Rabbi of Holon, HaRav HaGaon R’ Avraham Yosef, son of Maran HaRav Ovadiah Yosef ztvk’l. The boys greeted the Rav with great enthusiasm, singing the traditional pizmon of יחיד אל דגול.

Afterward, HaRav Yosef encouraged the boys by emphasizing the importance of not stopping to learn Torah, even over summer vacation. Great rabbanim, like Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai and Rashi knew that the world was round. If so, why did it take so long for America to be discovered? He quoted the Ben Ish Chai, who wrote that many centuries ago, people were able to get by with only a few hours of sleep, so the world was able to be maintained by a constant flow of Torah study. Now people are weaker and need more sleep. Therefore, Hashem gave the world the wisdom to discover America so that while yeshiva students in Israel are sleeping, our talmidim in Los Angeles are maintaining the world with their Torah study and vice versa when the yeshiva students in Eretz Yisrael are asleep. HaRav Yosef encouraged the students to maintain this special relationship with the Jews of Eretz Yisrael by never allowing even one day to go by without learning.

The Rav was visibly impressed by our students, the future Talmidei Chachami of our community and blessed them all for success in their learning.
